It makes me happy to know people who can do something about it are doing itKimmie Merkleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11588621659982640143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171994363578468585.post-7129429299992708032016-10-07T21:34:09.816-07:002016-10-07T21:34:09.816-07:00Love it Kimmie! You should read Suburban Nation and The Option of Urbanism. The latter is my favorite about this kind of stuff. It's gushy about walkability but balances it out with some realism from the developer point of view. matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03033738577423580194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171994363578468585.post-51028302753621641002016-10-07T08:42:49.324-07:002016-10-07T08:42:49.324-07:00That class sounds cool! Yeah, I loved growing up in southern CA but now as an adult I see so much that's lacking (in terms of lifestyle). I wish there was some way to fix itKimmie Merkleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11588621659982640143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9171994363578468585.post-91164076248141774952016-10-07T06:40:41.545-07:002016-10-07T06:40:41.545-07:00I actually read this book 2 years ago and totally ...I actually read this book 2 years ago and totally agree with you. I have been fortunate to live close enough to my work over my time in grad school and now in my job here in South Florida to bike commute to work everyday and couldn't imagine driving long distances to work. But still, southern CA has a long way to go on walkability and bikeability. I'm teaching an intro to environmental science class and we were just talking the other day about compact development and how it can actually lessen environmental impacts because energy usage is decreased when people have easy access to shops, jobs, etc. through walking, biking, and public transit.Steve Merkleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12684910385180965701noreply@blogger.com
